Wednesday, Jul. 27, 2005 - 1:19 p.m.
It started off okay...
Around 5 o'clock yesterday, while I was still busting my ass at work I received a call on my cell phone from a 786 area code that I hadn't seen before and this is how it went...(this is mainly for my own memory)
Me: "Hello?"
Anonymous caller: "Hi, oh God, is this your cell phone?"
Me: "Well, you just called it, yeah this is my cell phone. Who's this?"
Anonymous caller: "It's (pause) *INSERT NAME HERE*." (don't feel like disclosing her name just yet)
Me: (picking my jaw up off of the floor) then mumbling something along the lines of..."Huh?...wha...I can't belie...huh?...*INSERT NAME HERE*?...how? (clearing my throat)how'd you get my number?"
*Not exactly as smooth as most of my conversations with past lovers that I haven't spoken to in over 3 years, but let's face it, I was still in total and complete shock.
Long story cut drastically short, we talked when I got home from work for a little less than 2 hours. She's been through alot. She ended up in a coma for 15 days after a terrible car accident. She had to go to therapy of all kinds but she sounds great.
I couldn't stop saying "Wow", and she couldn't help but laugh. We want to see each other and she was quick to let me know that she was still a lesbian, and when I started telling her about wanting to settle down and kids, she muttered..."with a husband?"
She still amazes me. I just laughed and reminded her that only time had passed, Hell hadn't frozen over yet - atleast not to my knowledge.
At 7:30pm my best friend Frannie had called with some problem and I did what any best friend would do and I hung up on *INSERT NAME HERE* to help out my friend however needed. When Frannie showed up at my place I told her, "Guess who just came out of the woodworks, asked someone for my number and called me today?"
Frannie: "Who?"
Me: "INSERT NAME HERE"!
Frannie: "What? Are you kidding? Nah!...Wha...how...huh?"
Yesterday made me realize why Frannie and I are best friends and have been...we speak the same language.
